Miss Fiji's New Reign: A Focus on Advocacy and Family Strengthening
The newly crowned Miss Fiji, Dr. Peggy Ravuisiro, has a mission that goes beyond the pageant stage. Her reign will be dedicated to advocacy, addressing the struggles and challenges faced by Fijians, especially families and youth. With a personal understanding of the impact of family breakdown, Dr. Ravuisiro aims to create safe spaces for open communication and support.
A Voice for the voiceless:
Dr. Ravuisiro grew up in a split household, witnessing the long-lasting effects of family discord on children. She believes that many societal issues, such as substance abuse, HIV and AIDS, and mental health problems, often stem from communication breakdowns within families. Her goal is to encourage dialogue and provide a platform for Fijians to express their grievances and emotions.
Empowering Youth:
As a medical graduate, Dr. Ravuisiro emphasizes the importance of resilience and gratitude among young people. She urges them to choose strength over entitlement and victimhood over a victim mindset. By fostering a supportive environment, she aims to empower the youth and strengthen the fabric of Fijian families.
Representing Fiji with Pride:
With the upcoming Miss Pacific Islands pageant in February, Dr. Ravuisiro is excited to represent Fiji on home soil. She hopes that her participation will inspire and empower Fijian girls, especially after a seven-year gap in strong regional representation. Her goal is to make girls feel seen, valued, and empowered, fostering a sense of pride and community.
Beyond Pageantry:
Dr. Ravuisiro's reign is not just about the pageant; it's about making a difference. She invites Fijians to share their stories and experiences, creating a safe space for dialogue. By addressing the root causes of societal issues, she aims to build a stronger, more resilient Fiji, one conversation at a time.
