MAFS groom Steve's candid admission of his fatal flaw in audition tape sparks debate - but he's unmoved by the idea of change
When Steve and Rebecca tied the knot on MAFS, it was hailed as one of the most romantic weddings in the show's history. But beneath the surface, their relationship was already facing challenges. Looking back at Steve's audition tape, it's clear why their marriage didn't last.
In a revealing moment, Steve, 50, admits to being selfish, a trait that has plagued his past relationships. Despite recognizing its impact, he shows no inclination to modify his behavior.
"I've been selfish in the past, and I still do whatever I want," he says with a laugh. Steve believes that altering his nature at his age is futile and counterproductive.
"I don't know how easily that is to change," he says. "I don't think you should have to change at this age. At 50, I don't want to spend the next 25 years in therapy trying to change who I am."
Steve's past marriage ended due to his drinking and lack of support from friends. He shares, "I was like a dad for the first time, and I just went out and drank. I had friends who didn't have my back. They should have sent me home, but they didn't. It wore thin."
However, when he met a woman who didn't drink, he thought he'd found someone to help him "straighten out." They got engaged, but the relationship ended. "No one could straighten me out in the end," he jokes.
Steve is a father to four children, a reality he emphasizes doesn't make his life chaotic. "It sounds like, 'Shit, you've got four kids, that's a handful.' But that's not what you're getting by dating me," he clarifies. "I'm around all four kids five weeks of the year, so there are 47 weeks when I'm alone."
Steve's candor about his flaws has sparked debate, but his unwavering stance on change remains. Will his honesty lead to personal growth, or will it be a recurring theme in his relationships? The answer remains to be seen.
