India Surges as #2 Tourism Market for the USA! | US Travel Boom (2026)

The United States is experiencing a remarkable surge in tourism from India, with the country now ranking as the second-largest international market for travelers to the US. This significant growth is highlighted by Brand USA's president and CEO, Fred Dixon, during his recent visit to Bengaluru for the 12th edition of Brand USA Travel Week.

Dixon expressed excitement about the 40% increase in Indian visitors since the pre-pandemic era of 2019, emphasizing the evolving sophistication and financial capability of Indian tourists. "We are thrilled that travel to the United States from India continues to grow at an astonishing rate," he shared with PTI.

The year 2025 saw more than two million Indian travelers journeying to the US, marking it as the second consecutive year of robust recovery post-pandemic. Dixon described this milestone as "an incredible feat" that showcases the resilience and potential of the Indian travel sector.

While iconic states like New York, California, and Florida remain top choices for Indian tourists, Dixon pointed out a trend where repeat visitors are increasingly exploring further into the heart of America. "India is now among the top ten source markets for many US destinations, possibly even within the top five," he noted, reflecting the diverse interests of Indian travelers.

The presence of a large US delegation at the Brand USA Travel Week, comprising around 75 representatives from various US destinations and travel businesses, underscores the growing significance of the Indian market. These representatives engaged with Indian travel partners and media, highlighting the collaborative spirit between the two nations.

Looking forward, Dixon anticipates that 2026 will be a landmark year for US tourism, fueled by a convergence of several major global events. "It’s going to be an incredible year for us. In 2026, three significant events are set to take place in the United States, which are truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunities," he remarked.

Among these events is the FIFA World Cup, scheduled for June and July 2026. Dixon emphasized the uniqueness of this tournament, noting that it will feature 48 teams across 11 host cities, ranging from Seattle to Miami. He believes this event will not only generate excitement among football fans but also invigorate local communities nationwide.

Additionally, 2026 will mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, with celebrations reaching their peak around July 4th. This year will also celebrate a significant milestone for Route 66, one of America’s most legendary highways, which Dixon described as the epitome of the classic American road trip. He observed that there is a growing interest among Indian travelers in self-drive holidays across the US.

Brand USA, the national tourism marketing organization, is playing a significant role in promoting these global events. Dixon highlighted the economic influence of Indian tourists, stating, "India is not just our second-largest market by volume; it has also become the second-highest spending market." He characterized Indian travelers as discerning long-stay visitors, making them particularly valuable to the US tourism economy.

During the Brand USA Travel Week in India, Dixon reported strong attendance and positive outcomes. Looking ahead to the next five years, he remains optimistic about the future of the travel corridor between India and the United States. "If the trends of the last two years hold true, I believe the Indian market will continue to flourish," he commented, reinforcing Brand USA’s long-term confidence in India. He also pointed out a decade filled with major sporting events in the US, including the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, the Rugby World Cup in 2031, and the Winter Olympics in 2034, which are expected to drive sustained demand.
